In 2023, Bad Saarow Golf Club took on a new and inspiring role as the official golf venue for the Special Olympics World Games in Berlin. VPAR had the pleasure of joining and assisting the teams at Bad Saarow during the Special Olympics, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Niall, Cameron, and I had a fantastic week, each taking on roles alongside an amazing team of volunteers. We provided devices and scored each category, witnessing firsthand the incredible level of golf, sportsmanship, and competition. The atmosphere was both spectacular and inspiring, with never a dull moment and always smiles all around. We even had the honor of leaving our names on a bit of history, making the week even more special.

The Special Olympics isn’t just about competition; it’s about breaking down barriers, celebrating inclusion, and fostering a love for sport in everyone. The atmosphere at Bad Saarow during the event was electric, as golfers, coaches, families, and spectators came together to cheer on the athletes. The event left a lasting impact on the club and highlighted the importance of inclusivity in sports, showing that golf is a game for everyone, regardless of ability.

The Faldo Legacy at Bad Saarow

Of the three courses at Bad Saarow, the Faldo Course stands out as a must-play for those who love a challenge. Designed by Sir Nick Faldo, a six-time major champion, the course reflects his competitive spirit and attention to detail. True to the links-style courses of Scotland and Ireland, it features large, deep bunkers, wide fairways that roll and dip with the natural landscape, and greens that require precise shot-making.

Faldo’s design focuses on strategy and shot placement, making it a thinking golfer’s course. What’s better than one amazing course? Two! Brocket Hall Golf Club boasts two fantastic 18-hole courses: the Melbourne Course and the Palmerston Course. Each has its own character, so there’s something for every type of golfer.

The Melbourne Course: If you love open fairways and scenic views, the Melbourne Course is for you. The River Lea winds through the course, offering some exciting water hazards. The signature moment? The famous 18th hole where you cross the river on a small barge to get to the green (or attempt to fish your ball out of the water)!

The Palmerston Course: For those who enjoy a more challenging and technical game, the Palmerston Course delivers. The course is surrounded by trees and has tighter fairways, demanding accuracy and smart play. It’s beautiful and will keep you on your toes!

Green fees vary between season and time of day, but typically prices range from £115 to £155 per round, which you can see here.
